Dr Chirag Desai is a Chief consultant and Program Director in Department of Gastrointestinal, Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant surgery at the Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad for last 2 decades.

He specializes in complex and cancer surgeries of liver, pancreas, gall bladder and intestine. He has special interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He is pioneer in liver transplantation in Gujarat and has to his credit: 1st living donor liver transplant, 1st pediatric liver transplant and 1st liver transplant without blood transfusion in Gujarat.

He is the first one from Gujarat to be on the panel of examiners for the Royal College of surgeons, UK. He is an office bearer of many national and international associations.

His success mantra is “Be Good and Do Good”.

In future his aim is to promote concept of organ donation and make liver transplantation available and affordable to a common man.

After his initial surgical training in India he went to the United Kingdom where he progressed very fast, obtained FRCS(Edinburgh) and FRCS(Glasgow) and landed up working in the world renowned centers like The Royal London Hospital, London and The Royal Free Hospital, London. He was awarded The Royal College of the Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow traveling fellowship to the Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea. This is the biggest Living Donor Liver Transplant centre in the world.
